Lesotho and the Mafika-Lisiu Primary School

Kindergarden kids and school boys playing (with Kreisel, sorry, I forgot the word). There toys are so simple, often made of rubbish. Below you see the ever so dynamic and inspiring principal of the school (with the pre-school kids). She told us a lot about the school history, having been a pupil of this school herself. Children playing around the school although it is Sunday. They've been probably waiting for us... A teacher, a student and me... in front of the "office" First of all I'd like to apologise to my German friends, but I've promised to write the one or the other entry in English, so that also English speaking friends can read it.
I would like to talk a bit more about my experience in Lesotho. In the end I went there twice, because I really loved it. It was about a 90 minutes drive from the Amphitheater Backpackers where I was staying and we passed impressive, dramatic scenery, flourishing townships and lots of dams. Our guide was very well informed and told us a lot about the area.
Once we were approaching the Lesotho border, the road got bad (only dirt road from there on). And all this with a Japanese minibus! Incredible. I really admired the driver.
First stop was a primary school that the backpackers is supporting through these tours (part of the money they make with the tours goes directly to the school).
I was so impressed by the work the school is doing (it all reminded me a lot of the situation in London), that I decided to donate half of the money that I had raised at the jumble sale at the schools summer festival to this school. And they've appreciated it very much. The roughly 150 Euros are a lot of money for them. It will go towards the costs of the third building that they are constructing and that still needs a roof... And quickly, before the rain starts...
