Zanibar - Stonetown - Town life

More pictures from Zanzibar, this time Stonetown, the main settlement, the old part of Zanzibar Town.
Stonetown in Zanzibar is an old settlement with small narrow lanes, most of them not large enough for cars. Lovely atmosphere, very exotic, but a bit run-down. Most buildings are dilapidated and prone to collapse soon. Other places have been renovated and are real elegant and trendy. The mixture is appealing. I like it here, I think I might stay a bit longer.
Hakuna matata! Don't worry, be happy. Take it easy. Dalladallas. Cheap Transport in Zanzibar...
Earlier on I commented on the poor condition of some (most) of the buildings here. What's stunning, is that the museums too are in a rather neglected condition, as if nobody has cleaned or tidied up ever. In Dar es Salaam they proudly exhibit the posh cars that Julius Nyerere (first president) was using, but they never bothered to polish or even replace broken lenses. So it looks rather poor than anything flashy or posh. And you wonder why nobody notices. There is definitely enough manpower to do things like that. I don't think they see the need for it. Now is this telling me that I have been away for too long and that I am turning into a narrow-minded German here? I don't hope so. I better stop it now and keep telling you about all the nice things that I am experiencing here.
